Teacher clothes

Guys. I have a problem. I need more teacher clothing. Don't get me wrong; I do not dress trashy or anything. In fact, I rarely ever wear t-shirts. Other than working out, I wear them at most once a month. I like the way I dress, but I need more professional clothes.
Cue my friend Zulily. Zulily is a baby, kid, and mom discount website. I have purchased gear for my nephews and myself on it. They usually have pretty good deals for well known companies. (Kalencom, Melissa and Doug, Disney, Anchor Hocking, Quicksilver, Lego, Mudpie, etc.) I have had a couple of not-so-good experiences with them, but they have amazing customer service and take care of things quickly. A few weeks ago, they were featuring DownEast. DownEast has some great candidates for teacher clothes. I got to shopping and bought these gems.

This one reminds me of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor outfit.

Love the flowers almost as much as I love ruffles.

I got all of them yesterday and I am in love. The only problems is that I had to get the brown skirt and polka dot dress in a size medium because they were out of small. I'll have to put darts in the dress because the bust is way too big and I will need a nice belt for the skirt. One tug from a student to get my attention may pull it down.

To do today

Now that the school year is creeping up on me (I have less than two months!) I need to start moving faster. My classroom has been an intern classroom for countless years so it is full of junk. (To quote my father, "Stuff you keep. Junk you throw away.") I have been in there on average of two hours a day for the past two weeks and have a pile of junk to throw away and junk to ask about. I feel as though I have not made a very big dent.
A girl needs a break though so today I am just going to craft and shop.

By the way. I just discovered this website. Class t-shirts? Yes please. These ones are the cheapest I have found, but now I have to figure out how to raise $259 to buy one for myself and my (at the very least) 36 students.

Schoolmarm

My brain is consistently filled with different ideas for my classroom. I received the keys to my new home on June 1st and ever since then, I go over whenever I have a spare couple of hours. The first time I went into the room, I found all sorts of treats awaiting me. Literally. There was probably over a pound of candy in different nooks and crannies. I ate a bag of Jelly Bellies and threw the rest of the candy away. (I've been warned by my mentor teacher to eat healthy and exercise or else I will become overweight like the stereotypical school teacher.) I have filled up two large trash cans full of stuff to throw away and will probably stuff junk into at least two more.
My darling next room neighbor informed me that he was retiring and offered me all his math gear and his entire library. I was bummed to hear he was retiring--he is such a darling man--but ecstatic to hear that I would inherit so many supplies. My classroom library is expanding. I probably have around 400 books for my incoming 4th graders. Once I go through his books, that number will increase by at least 100. (There are also the hundreds of books I inherited by being an intern at my school, but since I have to leave those books in the classroom when I leave, I do not include them in my count.)
I have so much to decide in the next 2 months. What will my discipline plan be? How will I arrange the desks to seat 36 students? (Yes. I will have between 35 and 37 4th graders to educate and entertain.) When do I want to have my class meetings? What should my grading policy be? And--the one that is stressing me out the most right now--what will my classroom look like?
I have asked many of my fellow interns what the theme of their classroom is going to be. I went through many ideas. Owls. Safari. Utah. Ancient civilizations. The Beatles. Penguins. I have finally decided on a vintage/literal old school theme. Curious to see how it will turn out? So am I.
